Chinese officials under scrutiny for energy waste

China's Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) has promised that more efforts will be made over the next five years to combat crimes involving officials wasting energy and resources.

Prosecutors will investigate job-related crimes that damage resources and the environment, and conduct synchronized investigations with other administrative departments on project-related major accidents, China Daily reported on Sept. 11. The latest measures was released by the SPP for the implementation of its 2008-12 Work Plan to Establish a System to Strength the Punishment and Prevention of Corruption state.

The 14th Green China Forum-Environmental Economy Policy and Sustainable Development of Pearl River Delta was successfully staged at Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, on 12 September. Vice Minister of Environmental Protection, Pan Yue addressed the Forum by informing the media on the progress of environmental and economic policy during the first half of 2008 and expressed high expectation on the success of Pearl River Delta in taking the lead to promote the implementation of environmental and economic policies for the achievement of green development. The Forum was co-organized by Business Environment Council (BEC) and China Environmental Culture Promotion Association (CECPA).
